FSC: Trans Performers Shouldn't Have to 'Prove' Anything for Bathroom Access

It's unfortunate that in 2016, trans and gender non-conforming people are still being denied access to restrooms. Last weekend, security guards for the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas reportedly accosted a transgender attendee seeking a bathroom break during the AVN Awards, and in the days following there has been understandable outrage. Since our early days, the adult industry has prided itself in the diverse articulations of gender by our performers, directors, crew, staff, friends and fans. We understand innately that gender can not be defined in a binary system. As an industry, we have always fought back against those who would tell us what we can say, how we should look, who we should love, how we should present — or what bathroom we should use. We stand with this performer, and the countless other trans people in and outside the industry, who face similar discrimination and harassment every day.

We urge Hard Rock Hotel & Casino to partner with organizations such as the Transgender Law Center to provide cultural competency training for their staff to prevent this from happening again, and work to create an inclusive environment for people of all genders.
